OpenAI's ChatGPT and Whisper API Developers

OpenAI has recently announced that its ChatGPT and Whisper models are now available on its API, which provides developers with access to AI-powered language and speech-to-text capabilities.

With the system-wide optimizations that OpenAI has made, the cost of ChatGPT has been reduced by 90% since December, and this cost reduction is now being passed on to API users.

Chat-GPT API

OpenAI is making the new ChatGPT model, called gpt-3.5-turbo, available at $0.002 per 1k tokens, which is ten times cheaper than the existing GPT-3.5 models.

This model family is suitable for various non-chat use cases and is the same as the ChatGPT product. Meanwhile, the gpt-3.5-turbo model uses Chat Markup Language (ChatML) as a new format.

Moreover, OpenAI is continuously improving its ChatGPT models and plans to offer these upgrades to developers.

If someone uses the gpt-3.5-turbo model, they will always get the stable model that is recommended, but they can still choose a particular version if they want.

Additionally, OpenAI is introducing a new version called gpt-3.5-turbo-0301, which will receive support until at least June 1st, and a new stable release is expected to be launched in April.

Whisper API

Aside from ChatGPT, OpenAI also introduced Whisper, a speech-to-text model, as an open-source API in September 2022. The Whisper API has gained significant praise from the developer community, but it can be challenging to operate.

OpenAI is making the large-v2 model available through its API, providing developers with convenient on-demand access, priced at $0.006 per minute.

OpenAI recognizes that providing reliable service is crucial to ensuring that AI benefits everyone. To achieve this, OpenAI has made specific changes after receiving developer feedback.

For instance, it will not use data submitted through the API for service improvements, including model training, unless the organization consents to it. It has also established a default 30-day data retention policy, with the option for stricter retention depending on the user’s needs.

Moreover, OpenAI is improving its developer documentation and simplifying its terms of service and usage policies.

Overall, with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Whisper models now available on its API, developers can have a more affordable and convenient way to access cutting-edge technology.

These changes can lead to numerous applications that can benefit everyone, especially as more businesses leverage OpenAI’s language and speech-to-text capabilities to develop next-generation apps.
